Located near the downtown commercial area and Caltrain Station, this infill development will provide 36 units of market rate and affordable housing for the residents of South San Francisco. With a relatively small site nestled between two existing residential developments, a small interior courtyard provides natural light and seating areas for residents. A custom perforated metal screen provides a dynamic visual backdrop to the courtyard as light moves through the undulating pattern while also providing privacy for the adjacent existing residents.
The planting areas within the courtyard have been strategically sized and designed to capture rooftop rainwater, filter pollutants through a biological treatment system, and store in a cistern for future irrigation use. With California’s continuing drought crisis this project strives to do its part in conserving potable water through innovative stormwater capture techniques and low water use plants.
